James M. McGuire was born and raised in Moorpark, CA, a pastoral suburb of Los Angeles. He attended college at California State University—Northridge (C.S.U.N.) in Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley, where he was a founding member of the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society--Northridge Chapter and worked as a technician in the college’s Electrical Engineering lab. In 2004, James graduated magna cum laude from C.S.U.N. with a bachelor's degree in Political Science, then went on to work for a year as a computer teacher at the Flory Academy of Science and Technology, a magnet elementary school.
James attended law school up at the north end of Interstate 35, at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. While at the U of M, he received Honors in Legal Writing, competed on the First Team of the school's ABA Negotiation Competition program, worked in the Tax Clinic, and served as both a staff member and Managing Editor of the Minnesota Law Review. He graduated from Minnesota with Dean's List honors in December of 2007.
Immediately after law school, James migrated down to Austin, where he briefly assisted the City Attorney of Cedar Park and worked as a legal consultant for both Dell and Bloomberg Financial. Prior to entering private practice, James was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas in the Open Records Division, where he researched, edited, and authored more than 400 Open Records Decisions.
James now practices primarily in the fields of Consumer and Commercial Law, Small Business Law, Family Law and Probate.
